WHAT IS HOUSING NEED?

When assessing Housing Need the Association is required by The Housing Act 1996 (as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002) to give reasonable preference to certain categories of people and will bear in mind a number of the following factors including: -

  • Current or threatened homeless
  • Existing housing conditions Ability to cope with these conditions
  • Medical factors
  • Length of time adverse housing conditions have been endured or circumstances causing stress
  • Key Workers
  • Other options realistically available, including the ability or otherwise, of applicants to satisfy their housing requirements through their own resources.
